Filter classes

Each type of MVHR filter has its own filter class. The different filter classes indicate the extent to which the filters allow (fine) dust to pass through the medium.

Coarse filters: G3 and G4

These filters have a relatively low filter class. These filters protect both the air in the home and the MVHR unit from coarse dust particles, insects, sand and hair.

Medium filters: M5 and M6

Suitable for blocking dust particles that cannot be detected by the naked eye such as sand, insects, pollen, mold, etc. These filters have a higher filter class than the coarse filters.

Fine dust filters: F7

These filters are able to filter small particles from the air, such as: pollen, fine dust, dust mites, some bacteria and viruses. Used in the supply air side of the unit, they offer the highest level of filtration.

Normative

These categories are defined according to a standard. In 2018 the EN 779 filter standard was re[;aced by ISO 16890 and the new terminology is increasingly being used. This new ISO norm provides an indication of a filter's efficiency, stating what percentage of a given particle size is stopped by the filter.

ISO Coarse

Percentage of dust size > 10 µm retained by the filter. For example, sand, coarse dust, insects or hair.

ISO ePM10

Percentage of dust size < 10 µm retained by the filter. For example, pollen or desert sand.

ISO ePM2,5

Percentage of dust size < 2,5 µm retained by the filter. For example, bacteria, mould or pollen.

ISO ePM1

Percentage of dust size < 1 µm retained by the filter. For example, viruses, nanoparticles or exhaust fumes.
